Mata and United, in their best moment

Manchester United will face Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday. In the last four matches, Juan has had a hand in four goals (two goals and two assists). The Red Devils have won their last nine matches and find themselves on a 15-match unbeaten streak.

Juan Mata’s United will put their exceptional run of form to the test on Sunday. Old Trafford will host a cracker of a match against Liverpool (4pm, local time). Their opponents, who are second in the Premier League, will provide a tough test for United, who have won their last nine matches and gone 15 games without defeat. “In terms of results this is the best I have known at Manchester United. And in terms of the confidence and the mentality we are showing, it is also the best time since I have been here”, remarked Mata.

Juan Mata’s involvement has been fundamental during this sequence of good results. For example, in United’s last match, the Asturian scored the first goal in the EFL Cup win against Hull. This goal extended his brilliant start to 2017. In the three matches United have competed in the new year, Juan has scored twice (against West Ham and Hull) and provided one assist (against Reading). In addition, he was also decisive against Middlesbrough in United’s final match of 2016 (he provided the final pass to Pogba, who made it 2-1). Mata, therefore, has played his part in four strikes (two goals and two assists) in United’s last four matches.

Juan now prepares for a demanding clash, one which will conjure up good memories for him. It was against Liverpool that he secured his first trophy in England (2-1 in the 2012 FA Cup final, in which he provided an assist), and it was against the Reds that he scored United’s best goal of the 2014-15 (as voted for by the fans). On that day, at Anfield, he scored twice in Manchester United’s 1-2 win.
