An unstoppable team

Galatasaray picked up their tenth Super League win in a row, with Mata playing a second-half role. They beat Giresunspor 0-4 to top the standings (48 points).

Galatasaray SK are no match for anyone in Turkey. Juan Mata’s team achieved their tenth consecutive victory in the Super League (a streak that reaches 13 wins if you also count their Cup run). They did so in emphatic fashion with a 0-4 win over Giresunspor at the Çotanak Spor Kompleksi.

The match, in the 21st round of the league championship, was evenly matched until the second half. Galatasaray made it 0-1 in first-half stoppage time (Mertens was the scorer). A great shot by Dubois in the 60th minute meant the visitors’ second goal. With the score at 0-2, Mata came on (replacing Mertens), and with him on the pitch came the final flourish. Rashica and Akgun closed the scoring in the final minutes, sending the fans in Giresun into jubilation.

Juan did not miss a pass during his time on the pitch. The Spaniard had the pace and judgement that the game demanded to take advantage of the spaces left by Giresunspor (in their search for the goal that would give them a chance in the match).

Galatasaray’s next stop on their championship tour will be on Wednesday 1 February. They will host Umraniyespor as they look to extend a run of victories that threatens to break all records in Turkish football.
