Juan Mata will never forget 1 January 2025, the day he scored his first goal in the Australian League. The Spaniard controlled the ball on the edge of the box and struck a left-footed shot into the bottom-right corner.
His goal brought the score to 1-1 between Western Sydney Wanderers and Macarthur in the 23rd minute. However, despite their determination, Mata’s team, reduced to ten men, couldn’t avoid a 2-3 defeat in the second half.
“I’m pleased with the goal but disappointed with the result. I’m also grateful to the fans—everyone who came out on New Year’s Day. Thank you to our Wanderers family,” Mata said after the match.
