Through to the fifth round after a heavy win

Old Trafford witnessed a convincing win for United against Wigan (4-0) in the fourth round of the FA Cup. Juan played the full 90 minutes and could have scored in the first half. Before the match, Old Trafford paid tribute to Rooney after he became the club’s all-time leading goalscorer.

United’s love affair with cup competitions continues. Juan Mata’s team saw off Wigan Athletic (4-0) at Old Trafford, in the fourth round of the FA Cup, and continue their defence of the trophy that they won at Wembley in May. After booking their place in the EFL Cup final, United once again showed that they want to fight for all the titles available.

Juan Mata was in United’s starting XI and played all 90 minutes of a match which was preceded by a fitting tribute to Rooney. Bobby Charlton handed Rooney a trophy in recognition of his status as United’s leading all-time goalscorer. Neither Rooney nor Juan found the back of the net against Wigan. Fellaini (47th minute), Smalling (57th minute), Mkhitaryan (74th minute) and Schweinsteiger (81st minute) netted for the home team.

Mata nearly broke the deadlock in the first half. He latched on to a loose ball near the edge of the area and despatched a difficult left-footed volley which went over the bar. United will discover their FA Cup fifth round opponents on Monday. It is a competition Juan is particularly fond of. He has already won it on two occasions.
