Manchester United returned to the Champions League in the best possible way. With Juan Mata in the starting XI, the Red Devils swept aside Basel at Old Trafford (3-0) in the first match of the group stage of the competition. Fellaini, Lukaku and Rashford scored the goals that put the ManU on top of the group A, levelled on points with the Russian side CSKA, which stunned Benfica at home.
Mata did not stop offering himself to its team-mates in different zones during the 77 minutes that he stayed on the field. His appearances gave fluency and precision to the attack of United. A great pass to Mkhitaryan was close to becoming the 1-0.
Man Utd are now unbeaten in their last 19 European home games:

With this result (3-0), ManU has a run of 19 games unbeaten as a local in European competitions (ten of them in the Champions). The win against Basel boost the illusion of a team in which only Juan and Carrick know how it feels to lift the Champions League having a starring role.
