A visit to the successful San Diego FC project

Juan Mata entrevista San Diego

In November 2024, Juan Mata was announced as a new investor of San Diego FC. The Spaniard became the first active international footballer to invest in an MLS club. Since then, the Californian club has continued to grow, with extraordinary sporting results that have put the team at the top of the Western Conference. Now Juan has decided to see the project first-hand.

The Spaniard travelled to California this weekend to meet with members of San Diego and attend the match against Minnesota United. It was a very special day as the club celebrated Hispanic Heritage Night with performances and various activities. Snapdragon Stadium hosted a thrilling match that ended in a victory for the visitors, attended by 27,000 people.

“’I’m very grateful to the MLS for allowing me to be part of the ownership of San Diego while still an active player. San Diego and Right to Dream are a different kind of partnership in the world of football, with academies all over the world. They understand football the same way I do: In and Outside the pitch. I feel very proud of being a member of this group and of San Diego, as they are doing quite well.”

Juan feels truly committed to San Diego, a club that is determined to make an impact on the community. The ‘Right to Dream’ association is a strong link between the two sides and an excellent example of how football can improve people’s lives.
