Juan Mata made his debut in an official match with Melbourne Victory with a hard-fought draw (0-0) against Auckland FC. It was the start of the season in the Australian A League, the Spaniard’s twentieth campaign as a professional footballer.
There was a special atmosphere at AAMI Park, with pre-match activities and great energy in the stands. The game was tightly contested, with both teams enjoying spells of possession and creating good chances. Mata came on for the final 26 minutes, as Victory pushed for the win, but the score remained goalless.
Melbourne Victory will now play their next two matches away from home: on Friday 24th, they visit Newcastle Jets(10:35 a.m.Spanish time), before traveling to face Perth Glory a week later (11:45 a.m.).
