United performance in the first half was the most convincing of the season. With just 2 minutes gone, Juan, with a stunning strike, hit the crossbar after a good collective combination. The Spanish player placed on the right of United attack combined with Ander, Rooney and Martial to take control over Chelsea. Anthony hit again the woodwork in the 16 minute. Despite the chances, the score was 0-0 at the end of the first half.
Apart from his offensive role, Mata had to support Ashley Young in defensive duties. In the second half, Mata claimed a penalty in an action with Azpilicueta that the referee did not consider enough. Mata, due to the physical effort of a demanding game, did not participate as much as in the first half although he never lost his touch. In the 77 minute, Mata left his place on the pitch to Depay.
