Juan Mata has brought his spell at Western Sydney Wanderers to an end. After a 2024–25 campaign in which he featured in 23 matches, the Spaniard decided to move on from the Australian club. It proved a hugely enriching season for Juan, giving him the chance to experience the A-League first-hand and to discover the vibrant city of Sydney. The team finished fourth in the regular season before bowing out in the play-off round ahead of the semi-finals.
“Thank you very much to all the Western Sydney Wanderers family: everyone who is part of the club, fans, RBB… You are such a special club and will never forget how you welcomed me and your support through the season”, said Juan. “Your vision in using the power of football to positively impact society sets you apart and you will always have a friend in me. All the best for the future, thank you for this wonderful experience in Sydney and for having opened the A-Leagues door to me. I’m really proud to have worn your shirt.”

From day one, Juan felt the warmth and respect of everyone at Wanderers. His parting words are full of gratitude for the fans, for all members of the club, and especially for CEO Scott Hudson – someone he feels shares his vision and values on the impact football can have in society.
