Juan Mata visited Salamanca on 11 September. It is a city that has always brought back fond memories for him, as his father played for UD Salamanca in the 1991–92 season, when Juan was a child. The Spanish footballer took the opportunity to visit and learn about the Unionistas de Salamanca project, a club created in 2013 and governed by an assembly system, as its members are its owners. Juan wanted to show his support by becoming a new member of the club for the 2025-26 season.
During his stay in Salamanca, Juan visited the Reina Sofía stadium, where Unionistas plays. There, he took the opportunity to chat for a few minutes with the members of the club’s first team coaching staff.
Unionistas currently plays in Primera RFEF , the third tier of Spanish football. It is a team that has made a significant impact in the Copa del Rey, a competition in which it faced Real Madrid in 2020 and Barcelona in 2024.
