Galatasaray’s victory and Fenerbahçe’s defeat placed Juan Mata’s team first in the Super League. They have achieved six consecutive wins (four in the League and two in the Cup).
Juan Mata’s Galatasaray is the new leader of the Turkish Super League. Their victory against Istanbulspor AS on matchday 15 (2-1) and Fenerbahçe’s defeat against Trabzonspor (2-0) allowed Okan Buruk’s team to climb to the top of the table. He has 30 points, one more than their Istanbul opponent.
Since matchday 28 of the 2020/21 season, Galatasaray has yet to be the leader of the Super League. Six hundred sixty-two days later, they are in the lead again, and they do so thanks to four consecutive wins in the League (added to the two achieved in the Cup).
Mata played in the second half
Juan entered the match against Istanbulspor in the 75th minute. He did it in substitution for Gomis, the scorer of the two goals. Galatasaray was able to seal the game in the first half but ended up struggling after the visitor’s goal in the 82nd minute (by Yesil).
After the match, Mata and his teammates addressed the more than 40,000 fans at the NEF Stadyumu to celebrate the victory and first place with them. Galatasaray’s next game will be on Thursday, with their visit to Sivasspor.
