Mata, player of the Month for December and another assist

Juan Mata

Juan Mata continues to receive recognition for his outstanding season. The Asturian has been named A-League Player of the Month for February, an award he celebrated with a victory and another assist.

Melbourne Victory secured a 4–1 win over Macarthur in a very complete performance. The match was 2–1 at half-time, and after the break Juan Mata’s side sealed the victory with two assists from the Asturian midfielder: first, a corner kick that Esposito turned into a goal, and then a free kick that Nduka finished decisively. Mata now has 11 assists this season.

The three points move Melbourne Victory up to fourth place in the standings, with five matches still to be played. Arthur Diles’ team has now gone six consecutive games unbeaten.

The win came just days after Juan Mata was named Player of the Month for the second time this season. The award is voted on by the players themselves through the Players Football Association, an organisation that has been representing footballers in the country for more than 30 years. In the women’s category, the honour went to Josie Aulicino of Canberra United.
