Player of the Month and a Short Spell on the Sidelines

April has brought mixed feelings for Juan Mata. On one hand, the Asturian midfielder was named A-League Player of the Month for March—adding to the awards he collected in January and February. On the other, a fractured elbow has forced him to undergo surgery and take a break from action.

Juan successfully underwent surgery on April 8 and began his recovery just a few days later. The injury occurred during the match against Wellington Phoenix; he initially continued playing but was unable to finish the game. His goal is to return to the pitch as soon as possible and support his team in the final stretch of the season.

Before his hospital visit, the Spanish international received confirmation of his Player of the Month award for March, an honor decided by A-League fans. Mata currently leads the league in assists (13) and chances created (85). Melbourne Victory sit fifth in the table with two rounds remaining in the regular season.
