Juan Mata has been crowned Manchester United’s Player of the Month for October, after the Spaniard narrowly beat his friend and compatriot Ander Herrera in our closest-ever poll.
Over 90,000 votes were cast on ManUtd.com and the club’s official Twitter account, with Mata earning a combined total of 44 per cent compared to Herrera’s marginally lower 43 per cent.
After scoring United’s winning goal against rivals Manchester City in the EFL Cup fourth round, Mata has become the third different Player of the Month award-winner this season following Eric Bailly’s (August) and Marcus Rashford’s (September). It is the fifth time the 28-year-old forward has won the trophy since moving to the club from Chelsea.
