Western Sydney Wanderers to fight for the title

Juan Mata’s Western Sydney Wanderers secured a valuable 1-0 win at home to Newcastle Jets to seal their place in the play-offs for the Australian Premier League title.

The three points allow Mata’s side to go into the final matchday of the season with a chance of reaching second place, currently held by Melbourne City, which would allow them to qualify directly for the semi-finals. The victory confirms the Wanderers’ good run of 11 consecutive matches unbeaten (seven wins and four draws).

Zac Sapsford scored the only goal of the game, in the 57th minute, from Borrello’s pass. Juan Mata played the last quarter of an hour of the game. It was his 21st game of the season. Mata’s side will close out the regular season on Saturday 3 May at the Campbelltown Stadium, home of Macarthur FC.
