Among the contenders to get into Del Bosque’s list, Juan is the player with the most amount of official games this season. He has scored 9 goals and given 10 assists and there are still two games to play for him. Among the midfielders, only Koke has more offensive production.
This Tuesday Vicente del Bosque will produce a list of 30 players for France’s Euro 2016. But only 23 will end up going. Juan Mata wants to be there, a player who has to play two more games before that with United: Against Bournemouth and the FA Cup Final at Wembley next Saturday. The truth is that Juan Mata has plenty of reasons to be optimistic: His presence on the last lists of Del Bosque and his protagonism at Man U. In this sense, his services are convincing and Del Bosque might have taken notice of this.
Since September 2015 Juan has been in all Del Bosque’s lists. This season, Mata has played 6 matches with Spain (6 of 7) and has scored a goal (decisive against Macedonia). He has played all games with Spain because with his 9 goals and 10 assists he’s on top of Thiago (4 goals – 8 assists), Isco (5 goals – 12 assists), Cesc (6 goals-9 assists) and Silva (4 goals and 12 assists).
Of the available midfielders, the only one who’s produced better numbers is Koke (5 goals and 17 assists). The 9 goals of Mata make him the top scorer midfielder. Also, if you compare him to the strikers, only Aduriz, Alcácer, Morata and Koke have more goals-assists in combination.
Regarding the number of official matches played this season, Juan is the absolute leader with 58 (52 with United and 6 with Spain). The only footballer that has participated more times with his team is Aduriz (54) although Mata has better numbers (total amount) thanks to his games with the national team.
