In a packed Commbank stadium, Juan Mata made his debut in the Australian League with Western Sydney Wanderers. The Asturian could not avoid the defeat of his team (1-2) in a very disputed duel.
The Sydney derby had aroused great expectation, to the point of gathering 30,000 spectators and hanging the ‘no tickets available’ sign. The match was exciting right to the end. Sidney FC took the lead through Lolley. The home side equalised through Hammond, but a goal from Klimala gave the visitors the victory.
Juan Mata came on in the 62nd minute and produced some performances that give an idea of the impact he can have on his new team’s play. “It was not the result that we wanted but I feel grateful to feel the love from everyone in Sydney and specially in our stadium. It was a tough game, both teams had chances to win it but unfortunately it was not our best day in terms of the result. We keep our heads up, we keep going. Looking forward to the next game to try to win three points”.
The coming weekend, Western Sydney Wanderers will play against Western United at Melbourne’s AAMI Park on Sunday 27th.
