Juan will continue to be a Red Devil until 2019

United executes the option it had to extend Mata´s contract for another year. Mourinho stresses his importance to the club. “I still feel very happy and very proud to be part of this club,” said the Reds’ no.8.

Juan Mata will remain as a Red Devil until June 2019. Manchester United executed the clause that allowed extending the Asturian contract for another year (the contract ended in 2018). This way, ManU ensures the continuity of one of its most important players.

“I still feel very happy and very proud to be part of this club,” said the Reds’ no.8 in an exclusive interview with MUTV. “I think everyone that belongs to Manchester United should feel privileged, and that’s how I feel.” After confirming that the club had extended the contract, Mourinho said: “Mata is very important.” Juan, who is about to reach the 180 games with United, has a record of 39 goals and 30 assists with the Manchester shirt since his debut in January 2014.

The Spanish international could not celebrate the extension of his contract with a win. Tottenham won at Wembley (2-0, goals by Eriksen and Jones, own goal) on the mid-week matchday of the Premier. Mata came on in the second half, when the score already reflected the final 2-0. This Saturday, against Huddersfield, Juan and his teammates will have the opportunity to make it up for the fans.
