Manchester United lost against Liverpool (1-4) on their second match of the International Champions Cup. The imposing Michigan Stadium was nearly full and the scenary of a battle between two historical rivals in England.
Juan Mata was in the starting eleven and started the match wanting to be a protagonist after his brilliant assist against Milan. With 0-0 on the score, the international Spaniard scored two goals that the referee thought were in offside. Half time came with 1-1 thanks to an extraordinary set piece from Andreas Pereira. On the 71′, with 1-2, Juan was substituted. Without him on the pitch, Liverpool decided the match with two more goals from Ojo (penalty) and Shaqiri.
Mata, who has scored a goal and given an assist until now in these friendly matches, will play again on Wednesday’s dawn (Tuesday night at the US). The current Champion of Europe, Real Madrid, will be the rival at the Hard Rock Stadium. The match will mean the end of Man U’s participation in the International Champions Cup.
