Mata looks again at the Champions Last 16 stage

Juan played almost the entire match in Manchester United’s last game in the first phase. The tie against Young Boys had no significance in the group’s classification. On Monday they will meet their rival in the round of 16 (a round he has played four times during his career).

Manchester United, with Juan Mata in the starting XI, drew (1-1) against Young Boys on the last match of the first phase of the Champions League. The result leaves the Red Devils with 11 points, classified as Group F leaders.

The locals soon lifted Old Trafford crowd from their seats. In the 9th minute, Greenwood spectacularly finished off Shaw’s delivery to make the 1-0. Juan, who started the match in a centered position, ahead of Van de Beek, had the chance to score the second goal for United. In the 34th minute, his shot found Lustenberger and Faivre. From a possible 2-0 -which could have been definitive- they went to a 1-1 thanks to a great goal from Rieder before the break.

In the second half the score no longer moved. Mata, who had an 89% success rate in the pass, held out on the field until the 89th minute. On Monday he will meet Manchester United’s rival in the next round. It will be the fifth time that the Spanish footballer has played in the round of 16 of the Champions League. So far he has done it once with Valencia, once with Chelsea (the year he ended up winning the competition) and twice with his current club (the last of which in 2019, they beat PSG in a highly remembered tie).
