Manchester United lost at Anfield (2-0) the first leg of the last 16 of the Europa League. The Red Devils must be at their best in a week´s time if they want to qualify for the quarter-final. Juan Mata was the captain again but Liverpool display reduced his influence on the pitch.
United lost at Anfield (2-0) in the first leg of the last 16 of the Europa League, against an opponent at a great moment. Liverpool took the initiative from the start, blocking most of ManU passing game. In this context, Juan Mata could not test the Liverpool´s defensive line.
The Spaniard, once again in the starting XI, worn the captain´s armband again and completed 24 passes, out of the 27 he tried. Low numbers for a player used to lead the attack of the team. However, he could not do much about it. Liverpool was better and tried De Gea a few time. In the 79 minute Mata was replaced by Ander Herrera.
In a week´s time, the round will be decided at Old Trafford. United needs its best player at their best to fight back. Amongst them, Juan Mata who has a good record against Liverpool is encouriging, 3 goals and 5 assists in 11 matches.
