Juan Mata is in an excellent position to win a League, the only major trophy missing from his list of winners. Galatasaray is top of the table, six points ahead of Fenerbahçe.
There is hardly any room in Juan Mata’s list of winners. European and World Champion with the best Spanish team in history, at club level, he has lifted the Champions League, the Europa League (twice) and several local cups in Spain and England. The only title that is missing is a League, and that could change soon.
In his first year at Galatasaray SK, Juan has many options to conquer the Turkish Super League. He could not win the Premier League in his years at Chelsea and Manchester United, but now, in the Ottoman capital, an extraordinary opportunity presents itself. After 28 games, Galatasaray leads the competition with 69 points (22 wins, three draws and three losses). With 64 goals scored and conceded 20 (it is the team with the fewest goals by far), on its way to winning a trophy that it has not achieved since 2019. It will always be remembered for its record of fourteen consecutive wins that ended in March.
A defeat in the league before the international break (against Konyaspor) and the elimination from the Cup in the quarterfinals against İstanbul Başakşehir (5 April) was overcome in a big way by Juan Mata’s team in the last two games (6 -0 to Kayserispor and 1-4 to Alanyaspor).
The point difference over their great rival, Fenerbahçe, is six points. The season, which reached a tragic turning point with the earthquake in early February, may end with a celebration in the European part of Istanbul.
