Mata came on in place of Darmian in the 84th minute, with barely any time to influence the development of the match.
With one match remaining, Manchester United find themselves in second place in their group, with eight points. Wolfsburg top the group with nine points, while PSV, who have seven points, remain in the battle. Juan Mata and his team-mates will have to fight until the end to secure themselves a place among the 16 best teams in Europe.
