Okan Buruk’s side, with Juan Mata in the side, thrashed İstanbul Başakşehir (0-7) and are at only two points from the Super League leaders (Fenerbahçe). Mata came on in the 72nd minute (for Mertens) and had time to provide the assist for the visitors’ final goal.
In the Başakşehir Fatih Terim, Galatasaray marked territory early. Kerem Aktürkoğlu made it 0-1 in the 14th minute. Before the break the second and third consecutive goals fell (one from Icardi from a penalty and an own goal). Emre Belözoğlu’s team were very shaken before half time, and the storm continued in the second half. Aktürkoğlu scored two more goals, Mertens also managed to beat Sengezer and, in the 88th minute, Juan Mata quickly and accurately took a free kick towards Bardakci’s head. He helped get the ball played from behind, moved well between lines and put pressure on the opposing defenders when the situation required it.
