Too much effort with no result

Mata was the player who ran the most in Eindhoven: 12.070 kilometres. An attitude which resulted in lots of passes (69). However, United lost to PSV (2-1).

Manchester United returned to the Champions League with a defeat in Eindhoven (2-1). United No 8 was very proactive throughout the game, but he could not change the fate of his team in a game United did not deserve to lose. Nearly the end of the match, a precise set piece and a quick link-up play from the Dutchs, were decisive. On top of that, United saw how Luke Shaw left the pitch severely injured.

Juan was the most active player of United attack. From a more central role, Mata gave a total of 69 passes with a 91% accuracy (63 completed). Young, behind the strikers, contributed with 27 passes (22 completed), and Depay, who scored a fantastic goal, gave 42 passes (29 completed). Not even Ander Herrera, who has that quality to play the ball, participated more than Juan, Ander scored 63 passes.

Another remarkable fact was the distance covered by Mata: 12.070 km. No other player, from both teams, reached that numbers in Eindhoven. The effort took its toll, and Mata lost precision in the last metres as the match was coming to an end, and PSV was defending well. Now, we have to turn the page and start to prepare for the next match, that it will be next Sunday against Southampton.
