An exciting month lies ahead

Hi everyone,

I’m writing today after taking a look at the calendar. I’m not one to think about the long term, but the weeks that lie ahead will be exciting, as well as difficult.

We have started the month well with a win against Leicester. The team keeps showing that they can dig deep and compete. We saw it on Tuesday when we took a point after going 2-0 behind, as well as at the weekend when our opponent was looking for an equaliser. It wasn’t the most eyecatching of games, but we continue on our good run of form which has allowed us to climb up the table and we want more. We want to keep winning to get into the top four. We know that it will be difficult, because our opponents are also playing at a top level, but we will give everything until the very end to get there. What can you say about our goal against Leicester… a spectacular pass from Paul and a great finish from Marcus. His touch was worth half a goal on its own. The wonderkid’s form keeps on going.

In Spain, Valencia took a draw against Barcelona in a great game at Camp Nou. It is very tough to take a point there and Valencia did so while showing character and playing good football. This coming week they also have to play in the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey, a really exciting tournament. It was 11 years ago that the club won their last trophy and they clearly are motivated to do so once again. The other semi-final tie will get even more attention, as it will see two ‘Clásicos’ played in a matter of days.

Away from sport itself, but still related to it, I want to give my congratulations to the team of ‘Campeones’, who won the Goya award for the best film in Spain. It is a great example of how sport can help people to integrate socially. I was lucky enough to get to know some of the actors while at the National Sport Awards in Madrid and I can confirm that they’re great both on screen and in real life.

Many people were touched by Jesús Vidal’s amazing acceptance speech. Emotional, just like the film. Congratulations to everyone who made it possible.

Before I sign off, I want to wish the best of luck to my friend Fellaini. We spent many seasons together and he is a great guy. I wish you the best, Marouane.

I hope you have a great week and thank you for your support.

Hugs,

Juan Mata
